Caring for Steel Doors & Windows: Maintenance Tips

One of the joys of steel doors and windows is how little upkeep they need. Still, a few simple habits will keep your frames looking brand new for decades. Here’s our quick care guide.

1. Routine Cleaning

Wipe frames with a soft, damp cloth and mild soapy water every few weeks. This removes dust and grime before it builds up. Avoid steel wool or harsh abrasives that can scratch painted and polished finishes.

2. Protect the Finish

Our powder-coated and PPGI finishes are tough, but you can extend them by drying the surface after cleaning and avoiding harsh chemical cleaners. For stainless steel, wipe in the direction of the grain for an even shine.

3. Prevent & Treat Spots

GI and PPGI frames are rust-resistant, but if you ever notice a scratch that exposes bare metal, touch it up with a matching enamel paint to seal it. This keeps moisture out and preserves the look.

4. Care for Moving Parts

Five minutes of care a month keeps steel frames looking new for years.

5. After the Monsoon

After heavy rains, give frames a quick wipe-down and check that drainage gaps in window sills are clear. This prevents water from pooling and keeps everything spotless.

That’s It

No polishing, no termite treatment, no annual repainting — steel frames are genuinely low-maintenance. That’s the whole point of switching from wood.
